Our Founder’s Story

Sebaggala Hassan, a 30-year-old God-fearing man, comes from a humble background and is himself an orphan. He tragically lost both of his parents in a road accident on May 31, 2000, when he was still a child.
After becoming orphaned and living on the streets—often without food, shelter, or support—Hassan was rescued by the late Pastor Samuel Mwebaze, a compassionate man who would go on to play a life-changing role in his life. Pastor Mwebaze not only raised Hassan with love, care, and spiritual guidance, but also ensured that he received an education. Through his support, Hassan was able to complete his studies and attain a Grade III Teachers Certificate from Namutamba Primary Teachers’ College (PTC) in Mityana.
Having personally experienced the deep pain of loss and the struggles of street life; Hassan truly understands the hardships that orphaned children face. His own journey—from brokenness to hope—ignited a passion to dedicate his life to caring for children in similar circumstances.
A devoted Born-Again Christian, Hassan neither smokes nor drinks alcohol. His strong faith, shaped by adversity and grace, inspired him to establish Springs of Smiles Ministry in 2015, starting with 65 orphaned children. The ministry was founded on five acres of land donated to him by his late grandmother, after he shared with her his heartfelt vision of creating a loving and secure home for orphaned children.
